Lv Pinjing appointed Honorary Professor

Professor Lv Pinjing from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing has been appointed Honorary Professor at the Aarhus School of Architecture. In this connection he gave his inaugural lecture on Friday 4 November.

LV Pinjing is dean at the school of architecture under CAFA, without comparison the finest and most prestigious school of art in China; CAFA cooperates with some of the highest rated universities, and during the past 90 years it has educated some of the most eminent Chinese artists. The school of architecture was not established until 2003, and it is the only Chinese school of architecture which is affiliated with an institution for art. The school emphasises an artistic approach to architecture based on experimental teaching and research carried out within one of three main areas: architecture, landscape design and interior design.

The following is an excerpt of the welcome speech by Rector Torben Nielsen:

“The Central Academy of Fine Arts represents the highest level in artistic education in China. Cooperation between the Aarhus School of Architecture and the School of Architecture of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, which has a similar approach to the discipline, has, consequently, been given a high priority in our strategy for positioning the school internationally as an artistic and socially committed school of architecture.

The opportunity to affiliate Dean and Professor Lv Pinjing with the Aarhus School of Architecture as Honorary Professor is, consequently, a unique opportunity to realise this strategy.

Dear Mr. Lv, in appointing you as Honorary Professor I am convinced that the Aarhus School of Architecture will be associated with a capacity with great insight in artistic education. I am also convinced that it will be possible to develop further existing cooperation between our two schools – for the benefit and joy of both institutions.”
