The design education at the Aarhus School of Architecture has for a number of years been noted for a clear, dedicated and job-oriented approach to the design profession. The design education is with its roots in the Aarhus School of Architecture founded on the Danish design tradition, while at the same time through the state-of-the-art methods and technology of the design profession is taking part in developing brand new principles for the use of design as development competence. The Department of Design has through accumulation of a strong professional network and through cooperation with both the business world, and educational- and research institutions, created the weight in the education that makes the department an interesting and highly regarded cooperation partner for firms as well as research institutions. The competences of the department range from architectural detail, over advanced product design, to development of new forms of interaction and strategic design thinking. Common to the various professional competences is that they unite the traditional aesthetic design competences with an innovative and forward-looking systems thinking. Both research and education are likewise founded in an application specific, interdisciplinary mindset where cooperation and applicability are keywords.
